Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that

• Instruction should foster an understanding of the importance of life long learning
• Students should learn through a hands on approach
• Multiple configurations should be used while teaching such as a whole class, small group, partnerships, or individual work

• Instruction should allow diversity of culture, language, interests, and abilities
• All instruction should be developmentally appropriate
• Differentiated instruction is important so that teachers can reach all of their students
• Multiple intelligences should be kept in mind while planning instruction
• Open ended questions invite higher order thinking
• Technology should be integrated in all subject areas
• Instruction should include connections to the students’ lives
• Students should have the opportunity for discovery learning
• Lessons should be aligned with mandated standards
• Teachers must be reflective practitioners
• Parents should be involved in their students’ lives
• Assessment should be ongoing and inform instruction
• Concepts and skills should be revisited throughout the year
