Philosophy of Teaching
I believe that
- Instruction should foster an understanding of the importance of life long learning
- Students should learn through a hands on approach
- Multiple configurations should be used while teaching such as a whole class, small group, partnerships, or individual work
- Instruction should allow diversity of culture, language, interests, and abilities
- All instruction should be developmentally appropriate
- Differentiated instruction is important so that teachers can reach all of their students
- Multiple intelligences should be kept in mind while planning instruction
- Open ended questions invite higher order thinking
- Technology should be integrated in all subject areas
- Instruction should include connections to the students’ lives
- Students should have the opportunity for discovery learning
- Lessons should be aligned with mandated standards
- Teachers must be reflective practitioners
- Parents should be involved in their students’ lives
- Assessment should be ongoing and inform instruction
- Concepts and skills should be revisited throughout the year
